BRAG is pleased to announce the launch of its latest Community Roots initiative, Bookbugs in the Community Garden, supported by funding from The National Lottery Awards for All. This new programme will provide weekly Bookbug sessions, paired with a community lunch, aimed at supporting local families and encouraging early literacy, outdoor learning, and healthy eating.

Beginning on Monday, 6 April, sessions will run every Monday at 10:00 am and will include all the elements of a traditional Bookbug session, storytelling, singing and dancing with the advantage of all this taking place in BRAG’S Community Garden. The garden’s bespoke Willow Den offers an ideal natural setting for group storytelling and imaginative play.

As part of the project, CommunityRoots@BRAG has continued to invest in enhancing the garden’s facilities for young children. New additions include a dedicated seating area for lunches, a mud kitchen to support sensory and imaginative play, and a growing bed planted with peas, strawberries, carrots, and soft fruits. Children will have the opportunity to pick and taste produce straight from the garden as crops come into season, reinforcing the project’s commitment to hands-on food education.

The Funding is also allowing CommunityRoots@BRAG to provide a community lunch each week; this will be prepared using fresh ingredients from the garden so that we can continue to promote healthy eating, increase access to nutritious food and educate the children of how food is grown, harvested and prepared.

These sessions are free and open to all pre-school children and their parents and/or caregivers however if you would like more information on these sessions then please email [email protected].
