The sun shone brightly on our recent Fun Day, with by Brian Robertson-Fern marking the official opening of the garden and Lindsay Stewart, a Brag Trustee, cutting the ribbon. Families gathered to participate in the “plant-a-salad-pot” activity, resulting in 50 pots filled with lettuce and spinach seedlings that were happily taken home by participants. The day was filled with joy and excitement, especially among the children who delighted in planting potatoes and playing with week-old baby chicks.
Our vibrant community garden is now flourishing with the help of five new allotment holders and a few enthusiastic volunteers. We would be thrilled to welcome anyone interested in joining our green-fingered community. The garden’s volunteer hours are as follows:
Sunday: 11:00 – 13:00
Monday: 10:00 – 18:00
Tuesday: 10:00 – 18:00
Feel free to share this schedule with friends and family who might want to drop by and experience the garden’s charm.
In just under a month, our polytunnel is already brimming with produce. We’ve provided fresh lettuces to Pantry@Brag, and our courgettes are ripe for picking. Soon, we’ll have an abundance of tomatoes, chillies, pumpkins, butternut squash, and corn. Outside, the garden beds are thriving with potatoes, peas, beetroot, parsnips, radishes, and celery. We’re also excited to plant beans shortly, which are always a delight to munch on fresh from the garden.
If someone you know is interested in having a small allotment bed and live in the KY5 area, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at [email protected]. Join us in nurturing this beautiful space and enjoy the bounty of homegrown produce.
Together, we can cultivate not just a garden, but a community.
