CommunityRoots@BRAG is a community garden dedicated to cultivating a welcoming and inclusive space where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to grow, learn, and connect.
The project by its nature is inclusive and supports those suffering from social isolation and loneliness to feel involved and empowered within their own community in a safe and nurturing environment.
The Project Delivers:
Educational and crafting sessions with local primary schools, teaching children to grow and harvest their own nutritious food.
Volunteering opportunities and Community Allotment spaces are available to meet the local demand for growing space. Participants can learn how to grow their own food, meet like-minded people and access all the tools and facilities they need to build confidence to grow their own food.
Fresh produce grown on site is delivered to ThePantry@Brag, giving local people access to healthy, nutritious food every week.
Future Plans:
Our Sensory Garden will feature disabled access raised beds planted up by participants with a variety of scents, textures, tastes and colours for therapeutic and social use by those with physical or mental disabilities.
Within our Children’s Garden will be a willow tunnel for story time, a mud kitchen to encourage messy play and child-friendly raised beds filled with all the herbs, vegetables and soft fruits that children love to eat. We will run weekly sessions that will include entertainment and cooking activities for pre-school children and their families.
CommunityRoots@Brag offers multifaceted benefits to the wider community, through hands-on workshops, shared gardening projects, volunteering opportunities and fun community events, whilst building resilience, strengthening relationships, and creating a sense of pride in our collective achievements.
