Weekly Bookbug Sessions in the Community Garden

BRAG is delighted to unveil its newest Community Roots project, Bookbugs in the Community Garden, made possible through funding from The National Lottery Awards for All.

Launching Monday, 6 April at 10:00 am, the sessions will run every Monday morning and feature all the favourites of a traditional Bookbug session: storytelling, singing, and dancing. What makes this programme special is its unique setting. Children and their grown‑ups will gather in the garden’s charming Willow Den, a natural, outdoor space perfect for sparking imagination and encouraging a love of books.

CommunityRoots@BRAG has invested in expanding the garden’s child-friendly features. New additions include:

  • A dedicated seating area for shared lunches
  • A mud kitchen to inspire sensory and imaginative play
  • A growing bed packed with peas, strawberries, carrots, and soft fruits

Young attendees will even get the chance to pick and taste fresh produce as it ripens, helping them learn first-hand how food grows.

The funding also supports a free weekly community lunch, prepared with ingredients straight from the garden. This aims to promote healthy eating, improve access to nutritious food, and teach children how ingredients are grown, harvested, and prepared.

Sessions are free and open to all pre‑school children and their parents or caregivers.
