A dedicated community volunteer from BRAG has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to local initiatives, securing a nomination for a prestigious regional award.
Elizabeth Hunter, affectionately known within the community as “Betty,” has been shortlisted for the Mature Volunteer Award at the upcoming Fife Voluntary Action Volunteering and Voluntary Sector Awards 2026. The nomination highlights her exceptional commitment and ongoing service to community projects across the region.
Betty’s nomination reflects her tireless volunteer work at the Pantry, a weekly initiative held every Thursday at the Crosshill Community Enterprise Centre. The project plays a vital role in supporting local residents, offering accessible resources and fostering community connections.
However, her contribution extends well beyond the pantry programme. Betty is actively involved in multiple BRAG-led initiatives, as well as a number of groups across the wider community, demonstrating a sustained commitment to improving lives and strengthening local networks.
Earlier this year, her efforts were also formally acknowledged by the Provost of Fife, who recognised her long-standing dedication to community activities and her positive impact on local residents.
Betty’s nomination stands as a testament to the vital role volunteers play in sustaining and enriching communities across Fife.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, at the Rothes Halls, where Betty will attend alongside her nominator. The event will celebrate volunteers from across Fife who have made significant contributions to their communities.
