BRAG welcomed more than 260 attendees to its third annual Family Fun Day on Sunday, 7 June, transforming our headquarters into a lively and inclusive community space despite challenging weather conditions.
The event brought together staff, tenants and local residents together, reinforcing its growing reputation as a key fixture in the community calendar. Building on the success of previous years, this year’s celebration continued to prioritise accessibility and inclusivity, offering a wide range of free activities for individuals and families to enjoy.
Highlights of the day included face painting, popular character appearances from Bluey the Dinosaur and Bumble Bee from Transformers, bouncy castles, highland dancing displays from Sarah Hendry School of Dance, Bookbug storytelling sessions. Attendees also enjoyed freshly prepared rainbow pancakes served in the community garden, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere.
Tenants from the Crosshill Enterprise Centre played a key role in supporting the event. Contributions from Nest Hairdressing, Arty Farty, Baxter & Son and Waverly Street Tattoo enhanced the overall experience by providing additional services and activities for visitors.
The day also benefitted from strong support from local partners and emergency services. Representatives from Police Scotland and Lochgelly Fire Station attended, alongside community supporters Eddie Easton and James Fortheringham. Their involvement highlighted the strength of local partnerships and the collaborative spirit within the community.
Food and refreshments were another major attraction, with BRAG unveiling its new food van, serving a variety of hot meal options throughout the day. Complimentary tea and coffee were also available in the Pantry, thanks to the continued commitment of long-standing volunteer Margaret Duffy.
Despite the wet weather, the event successfully delivered a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all attendees. Staff, volunteers, vendors and community members came together to create a day filled with connection and celebration.
The Family Fun Day also raised more than £1,000 for the Pantry through raffle ticket sales and donations, further supporting BRAG’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and inclusion.
