The Games Design Course has been running since 2024 and continues to provide valuable learning experiences and reinforces the positive impact of providing hands-on learning opportunities for our employability clients.
Over the course of the 14-week programme, the young people travelled to Abertay University on six occasions to take part in a range of interactive workshops. The sessions were designed and delivered by Abertay students, who worked to ensure all participants remained engaged with the course material. By identifying each young person's individual interests, the university students created opportunities for them to explore topics they were particularly passionate about, as well as gaining vital experience of working with people from different backgrounds.
Upon completing the course, the young people were able to reflect on the wide range of skills they had developed throughout the programme. Teamwork emerged as a key theme, with participants gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of collaboration and the benefits it brings to everyone involved in a project. The course also challenged their perceptions of the games industry, helping them to recognise the significant amount of work, planning and creativity required to complete even the smallest tasks.
The young people who took part in the Games Design Course were participants in the Brighter Futures Programme, and the impact of the experience is already being seen. Since completing the course, one participant has secured employment, while two others have gained the confidence to pursue further learning opportunities. Their success highlights the positive outcomes of the programme, which helped participants build confidence, develop key employability skills and explore potential career pathways within the rapidly growing digital and creative industries.
The Games Design Course will be running again in 2027, if you would want to attend or want more information on the course or any of BRAG’s Employability Services, please contact the team on [email protected]
