Thursday the 10th of September is the first Scottish Employability Day and to celebrate BRAG would like to share a positive case study with you – please note names have been changed to protect identities.
Esther relocated to Fife from Pakistan in May 2026 via a humanitarian visa, although Esther had a degree in medicine, she had no work experience other than the short work placement that was undertaken as part of her degree and was unfamiliar with how Scottish employment and recruitment worked.
Esther started working with a BRAG Employability Keywork and was open to any opportunities that would allow her to build employability and interpersonal skills as well as experience as she knew that she would require these to pursue employment within the NHS in the future.
As part of Esthers action plan, two CVs were created. One was tailored towards the medical industry and another more generalised CV which could be easily tailored to a range of roles. The keyworker referred Esther to another provider, Skills Development Scotland so that Esther could obtain all the evidence she required of her degree should she be offered a role within the NHS.
Esther applied for a role within Fife Council as a Pupil Support Assistant and was coached by her keyworker prior to the interview. BRAG’s discretionary fund was used to provide clothing and travel for the interview and Esther was thrilled when she was offered the role and provided the following feedback on her keyworker, Lynne
